High Performance Consultant Vladimir Shestakov

An accomplished athlete, Vladimir Shestakov is easily one of the most decorated and distinguished judokas today in Canada. He collaborates with our club to share his knowledge and passion with young athletes who want to reach Olympic heights.

In 1988 Shestakov became one of the heroes of our sport, winning Olympic Silver Medal in Seoul 1988, where he fought all his matches on one leg because of a fresh hip injury. Among his other accomplishments is a Bronze medal at the World Championships in 1985 and a Gold medal at European team Championship in 1987. For a full list of his results you can check out his JudoInside profile. He is also one of the select few in Canada to reach a Seventh Dan.

A real judo enthusiast, Vladimir’s love for judo moved him to create a video series “Staroe Kimono” (“Old Judogi”), these videos describe the paths of the people who made history of judo on the mat, so the athletes of today would remember and be inspired by the heroes of yesterday.
